Second Year

Week 9

We got in a solid 7 weeks in March and April but I am only going to do three pages, the first is going to cover the mast. When I took the mast down and disassembled it last year it was looking pretty bad, here are some of before pics.

With the bare mast on its supports we started cleaning up. We used an aircraft paint stripper and the random orbital sander to clean it up. We also got the boom, spinnaker pole, spreaders and sail track stripped. Here is the mast in shiny clean aluminium ready for chemicals all 53' of it.

We prepared the mast for paint using Alumaprep , then rinsing with fresh water and then Alodyne and rinsing in fresh water. Then enter the Paint God in his suit of lights. Here Chris is starting to prime.

Here is a pic of the second finish coat going on. We used the same paint as what is on the topsides, Dupont Imron in an off white colour.

The mast got moved back over behind the boat, we got the parts back on except for the spreaders, standing and running rigging and mast head stuff. This project soaked up two weeks at least. Here is a pic showing some of the stuff back on
